CITY OF TAMPA

PARKS & RECREATION MASTER PLAN /

RECOVERY ACTION PLAN

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of the Parks & Recreation Master Plan/Recovery Action Plan is to engage the imagination of the leadership and residents of the City of Tampa as we work together to create a planning framework for the City’s parks system. Our approach is designed to provide the City with a comprehensive Vision for the city’s parks system and an Implementation Strategy to realize the Vision. Specifically, this Plan will strive to answer the following questions:

§         What are residents’ highest priority needs for parks facilities and programs?

§         What is the most appropriate Parks & Recreation System Vision to meet those needs?

§         How can the Vision be realized, and what is the most appropriate role for the City?

As a part of the “needs assessment” for this project we are preparing both a qualitative and a quantitative analysis of parks and recreation needs for the city that will lead to the identification of the City’s top priorities and goals.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

One component of the qualitative analysis includes four (4) community workshops that will be designed to solicit input from the general public regarding the community’s preferences and priorities for parks and recreation services and facilities.  The dates and locations of these meetings have not been established at this time.

The qualitative analysis will include a level of service analysis based on acreage, service area, facilities and population prepared by the City’s Consultant Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin Lopez Rinehart, Inc. as well as a citizen survey to determine community recreation needs and priorities. The results will help to identify the most common parks and recreation program needs and priorities.
