METHAMPHETAMINE

Slang or Street Names: Meth, Crystal, Speed, Go Fast

History: Methamphetamine is a stimulant that was used for the treatment of narcolepsy in the late 1930's. The drug is now produced in clandestine labratories using chemicals that are highly volatile, toxic and dangerous.

Identification: Methamphetamine appears in two forms. Crank is methamphetamine in a small off-white granular powder which is inhaled, injected or swallowed. Ice is methamphetamine in rock or crystalized form that is smoked.

Effects: The effects of methamphetamine use include euphoria, loss of appetite, increased blood pressure, paranoia, aggressiveness, convulsions, stroke and death.
